The HCUCA is dedicated to the conservation and restoration of habitat in Hamilon County, Indiana.

Welcome to the HCUCA

The Hamilton County Urban Conservation Association was created in response to the rapid habitat loss being experienced in our County.  As our County grows, we lose a significant amount of natural habitat which has a negative impact on air quality, water quality, soil stability, wildlife species, and ultimately, our quality of life.  Our mission is to promote the conservation, enhancement, and restoration of quality habitat in Our County.

Our motto is "Think Habitat, Not Grass".  As the population expands, we typically replace the natural habitat with turf grass which must be mowed and offers little environmental benefits or wildlife habitat.  Whether you have a large community common area or a small space in your yard, replacing the mowed turf grass with natural habitat will provide important benefits to our environment and wildlife.  Visit our Habitat, Native Plants, and Attract Wildlife pages to learn more about suburban conservation.  In addition, visit our Success Story page for a real life example of a community making a difference.
